More on groups with
special needs:
According to Garen Gouveia, President of Corporate Kids Events,
“It’s the one of the few times where kids can be kids and not worry
about their special needs. Kids get a chance to meet and bond with
other kids.”
Parents are able to
connect with other parents. They can attend seminars with peace of
mind, knowing that their kids are in a safe healthy place.
“Including the whole
family is critical to the culture of the conference.” Garen Gouveia
explains. “We just completed a series of conferences that included
over 700 children with special needs. Needs ranged from children
with skin disorders, developmentally delayed, autism, alopecia
areata, tuberous sclerosis, hemophilia and chemical and food
allergies. These kids as a whole are a delight to work with! They
have so much enthusiasm and zest for life. They are very gracious
and appreciate being included at the event. It’s so nice for them to
feel that they are not alone and they enjoy connecting with other
kids who also have special needs.”
“It’s so rewarding to
see that families can travel together and come home as a stronger
and a tighter family unit,” says Gouveia.
Garen and Susan
Gouveia, founders of Corporate Kids Events, which was established in
1998, managed over 150 events each year, ranging from weddings to
tradeshows. Their mission is to create stronger families by making
“team building for families” programs available anywhere in the
world.

“The camp was awesome!
Both my kids were apprehensive when we first dropped them off.
Hearing about some of the special
activities (fire truck, ambulance, magic show ..) helped but they
were still nervous. When we picked them up later that afternoon they
were both smiling from ear to ear. They had such a blast and
dropping them off on Saturday was no problem. We gave my daughter
the option of leaving a bit early on Friday b/c we were scheduled to
see one of the doctors and wanted her with us - she chose to stay in
the camp rather than be with us - that was a first! Last night after
we got home, I asked them to tell me their favorite part of the
weekend and my son said "the
camp!”
Before the conference, I was feeling a bit guilty about "parking"
them in a camp for 3 days - even though we were doing it for a good
reason - both my husband and I work full time outside of the home so
we don't get as much time to spend with the kids as we would like
to. With the kids having such a wonderful experience it took away
any guilt whatsoever and made it so much easier to focus on getting
what we wanted to out of the
conference knowing the kids were well taken care of and having a
good time.
All the counselors we met were great - so it would be difficult to
pick out any individual one. Their energy level was amazing -
keeping kids this age entertained for 9+ hours is not easy!
So I would like to thank you and Corporate Kids Events for helping
to make our experience at the conference a fantastic one for the
whole family.

“Thank you to you,
Garen, and the entire staff at kids’ camp. I had Shane in one camp
for typical 7 year olds. He had a blast and was very impressed with
making a shirt, a hat, the magic show, etc. Nathaniel was in the
special needs camp for 8 year olds, and is still talking about his
friend Julio and the counselor Amy. He loved it and this was the
first time in his life that he was not with family or his private
nurse. He was disappointed that we could not stay Sunday for him to
go back to kids’ camp. This is a testament in itself of how
wonderful a job you all did. He was very impressed with the putt
putt golf, and friendship bracelets Amy and he made. Then there was
Nevada who has an IQ of a genius but lives his life with no friends,
no social skills, he was in typical teenager camp and was so
thrilled he is still talking about. He has not taken off the tie dye
shirt he made since we left there. (Okay this could become a
problem. LOL) He said he was impressed with the sibs workshop and
came away with more of an understanding. God Bless all of you for
the job you did. This was our first ever vacation and you all made
it so my husband and I could enjoy ourselves without worrying about
our kids. All of you that created this, and the staff did an amazing
job. We thank you so much!!!! “

“I was really so
impressed with the whole group.
Leaving your child
with "strangers" is a difficult thing to do but after meeting the
staff it really put me at ease, especially when you have a special
needs child. The girls had a great time and I would highly recommend
your services to any corporation or organization.
Thanks for everything you did!”

I must say that
conference was spectacular. We enjoyed everyone we met.
My children were very impacted by everyone. Rachel made friends with
Mia and Alex. She loved the staff working with them. She also made a
buddy in Devon and a number of other people as well. However, my
Katie (without TS) told me that she never felt as much a part of TS
as she finally did with conference. The best friend she made was
Maddie (who has TS). They were quite the groupies with the bands. I
was glad we gave Katie the opportunity to be involved and learn more
about her sister and others. I am also grateful to everyone who also
made her a part of our trip by talking with her, asking her
questions, and generally making her head so big that she barely made
it through the door of the train. Katie is generally very shy and so
good that she gets passed over at times and not a single person did
that during conference. My hugs and kisses to you all.

“We had such a wonderful experience with the camp and my kids just
didn't want to leave when I came to pick them up. Kaileigh loved
decorating her T-shirt and making her picture frame, she thought
Sabrina (counselor) was great!

had fun playing with Ben and Kelsey at camp, He thought Matt the
counselor was a cool Dude. He loved making his polka dot scarf and
his flower "hula"
necklace for me. Allison and Cassie were sweet and fun! The two
chairs of the Preschool and School age rooms Rob and Chris were
absolutely wonderful.
All the Counselors were so professional and really took care of our
kids and let them be themselves. It was one the most positive
experiences my kids have had and enjoyed more than the sight seeing
we did afterwards. Bravo!!!!
You all get a standing Ovation from the Powell Family!!”

“Just a note to say camp was awesome for my kids. Counselor Airianna
in discovery camp was very welcoming. Derek said they were busy all
day and never got bored. He was so excited and she even played games
with
them!:) (Derek’s words) In explorer camp Rebecca was excellent, she
worked the interests of both her charges into the day equally and
for that it was a great day for Kayla. In the am I didn’t think I’d
get her in the door (mine was the daughter in green trying to hide
in the wall so she wouldn’t have to go in the room of strangers. I
think you were the lady that helped talk to her and told her about
the cheerleaders. I thank you for the help.) The counselors were so
engaging they didn’t let the kids have fears and for that I am
thankful. Thanks for a great experience and all your hard work.”

“I just wanted to say
that you did a great job on the Kids Camp. I absolutely loved the
volunteers I met from Corporate Kids Events. Cathy, in the toddler
room, was taking care of the girls and I felt that she had known
them and cared about them her whole life. She was truly wonderful! I
even bought her a little gift because she was so sweet. She paid a
lot of attention to Cassidy's needs for separation, i.e. she gets
overwhelmed sometimes by a lot going on, and Cathy picked up on that
without me telling her and took her out to play alone on the first
day.
Also, Kiley loved it.
The girls go to a home daycare for 3 hours a week and there are some
days that Kiley doesn’t want to go. But on Sunday morning when we
were getting dressed Kiley said "Momma, Camp!" and clapped. She was
excited to go back. They would both run in the building when we got
to the conference center.
I am sure it was a lot
of work but man it was wonderful not worrying about the girls when
we were in the conferences.
Great job to Corporate
Kids Events!
